Since the first day of school reopened, K1 students were taught and reminded to protect themselves against the vicious COVID-19. On top of putting on a mask at all times and kept a distance from friends; they were trained to foster regular handwashing habit and applied the eight (8) handwashing steps.
Here, Yuki using the ‘eight handwashing steps’ to wash her hands clean.
We revised ‘Day & Night’ of our 3rd UOI topic ‘How the world works’ and Central idea ‘Reflection and shadow influence the way we use light’.
Using a global and a torchlight (acting as the Sun) to illustrate the ‘Day & Night’ concept. Students learned that when the Earth rotates on its axis as it travels around the Sun; it is daytime on the side that faces the Sun and night on the other side. For better understanding of the concept, a ‘red dot’ was placed on the globe to indicate the spot of China is. The students noted that China was day time when the light shone on the ‘red dot’ and night time when no light shone on it.
We celebrated Easter Day on 13 April 2020 (Monday), one of our activities was students learned to cook boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs and fried eggs.
Eric, Seven, Jerry and Yuki learned to cook scrambled eggs. They broke their eggs in a bowl and then beat them up. Next, they poured the well-beaten eggs into a pan with hot oil and returned the pan to the stove. Using the ‘folding and whisking’ method, they cooked the beaten eggs into scrambled eggs.
Samantha and Kavya wanted to cook ‘boiled’ eggs. First, they placed eggs in a pot and added water to cover the eggs. Next, they switched on the power to boil the water and cooked the eggs. After the water was boiled, they switched off the power and let the eggs continued cooking for 10 minutes. They shelled the eggs after the hot water had cooled down.
Alice and Chris requested to cook poached eggs. They poured water into a pot and switched on the power. Each of them broke an egg in a small bowl. When small water bubbles appeared at the bottom of the pot, they glided their egg into the water and let them cooked slowly until done.
Eric, Lily and Kira were keen to cook fried eggs. They heated up some oil in a cooking pan. Each of them broke an egg in a small bowl. Once the oil in the pan was heated; they removed the cooking pan away from the fire. With care, they gently poured their egg into the cooking pan and returned it back on the fire. They allowed the egg to cook; then flipped it over to cook until done.
The students had a wonderful hand-on experience cooking the egg of their choice. Some of them said that they would try cooking them all the different kinds of eggs at home with helps from their parents.
