Transdisciplinary Theme: Who we are
In the preschool, we are approaching the end of unit 1. Teachers and students are preparing the students towards their summative assessment.

Through drawing of facial features, students reinforce their learning by identifying the parts of their body. They also learned the proper ways of washing their hands, how to comb their hair and brush their teeth. Children played balls to exercise their gross motor coordination, such as throwing, rolling, catching, bouncing.

We continued our inquiry into taste. We had two experiences. First, we explored four kinds of fruit jam with breads; namely strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and apricots. After tasting, the children named their favourite jams. Using the results, we charted them into a tally graph which is another way of showing the K1 children’s favourite jam. Our last session on taste, we made ‘Banana Pancakes’. First, we read the recipe, ie the ingredients and method of preparation. Next, we prepared the pancake batter according to the recipe. Later, we hands-on to cook our pancake before we enjoyed the pancakes together. We ate them plain and then with maple syrup to taste their differences.
For Language, we revised and practised vowels & phonics (aeiou, n, p, m, f, t, v, c), wordlists ‘an’, sight words (1 & 2) and vocabulary (action words 1 & 2). For Maths, we practised counting aloud (1 to 20) and counting within 10/20.

In math classes we practiced number recognition from 40 – 60, counting by 10’s with a counting song and measuring different sites on the playground with our feet.
This week, we feature specialist subject: Dance
In PYP Nursery, K1 and K2 Dance lessons, we focus on increasing children’s coordination and fitness. We did basic stretching to improve balance and dance technique. We did some dance games like <What Color Are You Wearing>, <Row Row Row Your Boat> to combine movements with instructions. We also learned some dance such as <One Little Finger>, <You Are My Sunshine>. The students had great fun while exploring their body potential and cultivating music perception.
